Connection
Like many people, I love New Year resolutions. I love the idea of taking the time to reflect on how you can become who you want to be. One New Year tradition I enjoy is a “Word of the Year,” a word that carries you through the hard times and celebrates with you for the good.
For 2019, my word was Achieve. It was a reminder on days when I felt I wasn’t fit for the challenge, that I was. And it was a celebratory word that cheered me on when I accomplished things I wasn’t sure I could accomplish.
For 2020 I wanted a word that would encourage me to reach beyond my comfort zone and create more meaning in my day to day. I wanted a word that when I don’t know where to turn, I could ask myself, “Does this lead me to my word?” I was preparing to share a meal at the table with my family when my word came to me. Connection.
Connection has always played a role in my life, but this year I will actively seek it out.
This year when I meet a new friend or when I connect with an old one, and I share my farm, my flowers, with them I want that experience to be more than an exchange of ideas and kind words. I want that experience to be an exchange of our hearts. I want our hands to connect in the soil, in the flower beds, to be stained green with leaves, and when we hold each other we feel tied to one another in our shared experience.
I want to share this amazing life of flower farming with you. I want to share the beauty, the bees bouncing from flower to flower, the praying mantis lurking in the stems, the worms crawling to the surface as the air cools on summer night, the way the light is sometimes absorbed by petals and other times it bounces off. I want to share the pure joy I feel from farming and I want to connect with you over it.
Let’s meet in the flower field. Let’s find that flower that stops you in your tracks and forces you to take that moment a little slower, that flower that calls to you and bring it home.
Your Flower Farmer,
Heather
